"Every one who knows about New Orleans knows about Bourbon Street. But did you think that street was named after an alcoholic beverage? If so, you might be surprised to know the real story. Bourbon, like other streets in the French Quarter, is named after one of the royal houses of France at the time the French Quarter was laid out in the 1700's. Another example is Burgundy, named for the Duke of Burgundy who was King Louis XV of France's father. (Dauphine. is the feminine form of "Dauphin," the prince in line to be the king of France.) Other French Quarter streets are named after Catholic Saints, like St. Ann and St. Louis, St. Peter and St. Philip. Info from about.com - http://goneworleans.about.com/od/famouslandmarks/a/street-new-orleans.htm
Note: Not everyone agrees about the naming of the streets. John Chase wrote a wonderfully entertaining and informative book entitled " Frenchmen, Desire, Good Children...." Check it out!
I am Kathleen K. Parker, a native of New Orleans. Over the years, I have worked as a contract venue photographer for AOL-Time Warner, a virtual tour/still photographer for VR National and for individual clients, and a magazine photographer for several publications. In addition, I have college degrees in Computer Graphic Design and English. Today I photograph weddings, especially destination weddings here, other events, landscapes, people, portraits, interesting subjects in general, and, of course, my beloved New Orleans. Street photography and French Quarter photography are two of my favorite subjects!! Thank you for visiting my fine art gallery!
