This delicate vintage black fence in New Orleans, LA is composed of both wrought and cast iron. It is well preserved, and the details are exquisite. Before cast iron, there was wrought iron, forged by a blacksmith and "bent" into shapes. Often the railings of these fences are straight wrought iron pieces connected to cast iron which is made from a mold into which the liquid iron is poured. It is really interesting to look at an image and find the parts that were forged and that were made from casts. Next time you go to a cemetery or place that has this type of fence, ask yourself what parts are which, wrought or cast iron. It is fun!
I am Kathleen K. Parker, a native of New Orleans. Over the years, I have worked as a contract venue photographer for AOL-Time Warner, a virtual tour/still photographer for VR National and for individual clients, and a magazine photographer for several publications. In addition, I have college degrees in Computer Graphic Design and English. Today I photograph weddings, especially destination weddings here, other events, landscapes, people, portraits, interesting subjects in general, and, of course, my beloved New Orleans. Street photography and French Quarter photography are two of my favorite subjects!! Thank you for visiting my fine art gallery!
