Description
This is the Cannon marble tomb guarded by two nuns with yellow cloaks and sitting under a large live oak tree in Metairie Lake Lawn Cemetery. Known to locals as simply Metairie Cemetery, this is a gorgeous cemetery full of history, fine architecture, and unique sculptures.
This is the first tomb I have seen with nuns as guardians. Usually, our tombs have angels as guardians. As children, my sisters and I and our parents used to come here often for a picnic visit, and people still do. It is a tradition here in New Orleans to visit certain cemeteries in this manner, not all, but some like this one. This was All Saint's Day, and many people were visiting.
