Description
The New Canal Lighthouse was rebuilt after Katrina demolished it in 2005. Here it stands today on stilts and looking much like it once did. Did you know that this lighthouse was originally completed in 1839? Its structure was not quite up to par and it was rebuilt in the mid 1800s. Here is the website: http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=340 It is a very colorful structure, standing on the edge of Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans by what we New Orleaninans call "the Lakefront." One thing I found very interesting at the website is that it probably holds the record for the most female keepers... who took over when their husbands died. That's why. Check out the website. It has a lot of history.

Such an improvement after the destruction from Hurricane Katrina on August 29, 2005. So many other things have been destroyed in the area and never replaced. A very sad time for a great city.
