Description
Here is the placard on the tomb of Marie Laveau in St. Louis One Cemetery in New Orleans. Visitors mark xxx on her tomb for good luck. Marie was the foremost voodoo practitioner in her time and thus the title Voodoo Queen of New Orleans.
For more info about Marie, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Laveau
"Laveau's name and history have been surrounded by legend and lore. However, many sources speak to her leadership in the New Orleans community. Marie Laveau is generally believed to have been buried in plot 347, the Glapion family crypt, in Saint Louis Cemetery No. 1 in New Orleans, but this has been disputed[11] by at least Robert Tallant, a journalist who used her as a character in historical novels.[5] Tourists continue to visit and some draw "X" marks in accordance with a decades-old rumor that if people wanted Laveau to grant them a wish, they had to draw an "X" on the tomb, turn around three times, knock on the tomb, yell out their wish, and if it was granted, come back, circle their "X," and leave Laveau an offering."

I was wondering about that, too, Steve! Maybe they did not know about the circle or maybe they have not been back to the city. Who knows. Also, there are a lot more xxx on this tomb than these, which are just a few. I imagine some were probably drunk when they did it, too, and forgot! Thanks, Steve and Denise! :) kk
